Korn Drummer Ray Luzier Talks ‘The Path of Totality,’ Van Halen, MCA + More

Korn’s latest album ‘The Path of Totality’ saw the band going in a new musical direction, embracing dubstep and utilizing several different producers including Skrillex. We caught up with drummer Ray Luzier backstage before their set at the Carolina Rebellion Festival. That was the show that featured the surprise return of Brian ‘Head’ Welch for one song, the first time he performed with the band since 2005.
We talked about the latest CD and the album of the year award at the Revolver Golden Gods. And since Luzier used to play with David Lee Roth, Van Halen’s newest release was discussed along with the future of the supergroup Army of Anyone and other topics.
What inspired the musical direction you took on ‘The Path of Totality’?
Korn has always had an element of hip-hop, reggae, funk. It’s an extreme direction, but to me it’s a Korn record at the end of the day. Jon [Davis], for the last several years, has been into dubstep music. He turned us onto Skrillex first, and said he was going to write some words on top of one of these songs. I didn’t know if it was going to be a solo project or what it was going to be. He said, “No, I want this to be the new Korn record.” That’s basically what happened. We thought maybe we would just make a five song EP. That was the plan, but it spread like wildfire. It was cool.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will reunite for the 2012 Rock The Bells Festival which will go down in August and September. Guerilla Union just announced the total line-up of the festival and it looks like the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony reunion will be matched by a return of The Hit Squad.
The two groups will be joined by a lineup that includes headliners Kid CuDi, Nas and Wiz Khalifa as properly as J. Cole, Lupe Fiasco, Ice Cube, Mac Miller, Dipset, Approach Man and Red Guy, Kendrick Lamar and a amount of other acts. Missy Elliot is slated to carry out with Timbaland in what the event’s promoters say will be an unique North American set, while Bone Thugs will pay out tribute Eazy-E and complete their second album, ‘E-1999 Eternal,’ in its entirety.
According to Krayzie Bone, who officially left the group in 2011, the tour represents a massive achievement for Bone Thugs, and he added that in spite of rumors of inner conflict, the group’s members remain shut. “It’s like a dream for us to do this. We amongst legends. Legends have done this tour, and we just feel like we’re becoming accepted as legends and have been asked to be a part of it, so it is like: why not? It is not like we mad at each other like we’re ready to kill every other,” Krayzie Bone informed Ballerstatus.com.
The Hit Squad will execute with a total line-up that consists of EPMD, Redman, Das EFX, K-Solo and Keith Murray which confirms hints dropped by EPMD members Parrish Smith and Erick Sermon that the group would resurface this year.

Jay-Z’s Tour Rider Requests Total More than $5,000
Submit by David Rogers, May 15, 2012 at 12:53 pm
The absurd and outrageous products integrated on musician’s tour riders have frequently left followers in awe in the previous, and now Celebuzz has partnered with Soda to create an interesting infographic illustrating what existing touring artists demand in their green room – and Jay-Z is at the prime with requests totaling a lot more than $ five,000.
The majority of the $ 5,527 essential by Jay-Z’s rider is wrapped up in his request to be escorted in a 57 or 62 DaimlerChrysler Maybach, which run $ 4,155 for a day’s lease. Other requests consist of two bottles of 2004 Sassicaia Red Wine ($ 422) and 4 golf carts ($ 950).
Katy Perry was 2nd on the list, with a rider totaling $ 4,460. Examples of Perry’s requests include two cream-colored egg chairs ($ one,830), pink and white roses and peonies (“Absolutely no carnations! – $ 200) and the very certain fridge with a glass door ($ 1,200).
Other strange requests such as Kanye West’s requirement that drivers only wear normal fibers and LL Cool J’s request for a tiny bottle of Johnson & Johnson infant oil and two dozen roses.
On the other end of the spectrum is Eminem, whose rider requests only total $ 103.92, and include Red Bull and six Lunchable snacks. The lowest priced rider belongs to comedian Zach Galifinakis, whose rider totals $ 49.86 in office supplies.
