Thom Yorke is to perform a special guest mix for Xfm’s new Music:Response this week. The Radiohead man has put together a stunning selection of tunes for our very own Mary Anne Hobbs, who will play out the mix on Thursday September 15 from 8pm.

The mix comes on the heels of the latest batch of Radiohead remixes to be issued by the band, based on tracks from their recent album The King Of Limbs.

Meanwhile, also on Music:Response this week – Florence Welch chats about Florence And The Machine’s new album Ceremonials on Wednesday September 14, as Xfm gives the new single Shake It Out its first spin.

Not a big surprise… but a scene in their new film shows the Followills spending some quality listening time…

The new Kings of Leon documentary film Talihina Sky got its premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival over the weekend.

The US band were in Scotland for the screening.

The film follows the band from childhood through to mega-super-rock-stardom – although all footage of the making their 2003 debut album was stolen.

Steve Harris will be playing ‘Switchblade Smiles’ for the first time on the O2 Evening Show after 7 tonight.. and chatting to Serge from the band.

Kasabian are closing this year’s Isle of Wight festival this Sunday – a departure from the event’s tradition “heritage act” final headliner.

Nicki Minaj has said that she would like for her music to be played more often in dance clubs.

The ‘Super Bass’ rapper revealed that the new single as well as her recent collaboration with David Guetta on ‘Where Them Girls At’ hold special significance as they mark her entry into the dance genre.

“It feels dope! They’re actually two of my favourite songs that I’ve ever done because they just feel good,” she told AccessHollywood.com. “And it’s time, just time for me to be in the club.

“You know, my voice needs to be in the club and people need to be getting tipsy, and wasted and crazy and all those other things to a Nicki Minaj song in the club right now! I’m actually excited about both.”

However, Minaj insisted that she plans to cut down on the number of other artists’ tracks she features on in the future, adding: “I’m just trying to make the features really, really count. I don’t want to spread them out too much.”

Minaj will join Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale tour this summer, playing 26 shows across the US.

One of the most influential men in the British music scene is taking over the station this Sunday….

Alan McGee, the former President of Creation Records, started the careers of such indie big-hitters as Primal Scream, Oasis and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

So… a big deal then.

And the man himself is taking over Xfm for a whole hour – this Sunday (May icon cool Alan McGee to Host Xfm Show 10pm-11pm – playing his choice of tunes.

It is as part of Upside Down weekend here on Xfm - the documentary about the creation of Creation Records which comes out May 9.

TV On The Radio bassist Gerard Smith has passed away at the age of 34.

The band announced the news of Smith’s death via their official website on Wednesday.

“We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer,” the group said in a statement.

“Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th 2011. We will miss him terribly.”

Smith was first diagnosed with lung cancer in March, following the recording of TV On The Radio’s latest album Nine Types of Light.

He immediately entered aggressive treatment and was said to be receiving “excellent medical care” which produced “dramatic results”.

The renowned TV presenter will guest-host our Saturday show throughout April….

Starting this Saturday (April icon cool Justin Lee Collins Joins Xfm  JLC himself will be broadcasting across the airwaves from the Xfm studios 2-6pm.

The former host of the highly successful Sunday Night Project will be joined by a series of special guests from the worlds of music, movies, and comedy whilst bringing listeners the best of Xfm’s playlist along with some stellar X-list classics (of course).

It marks a much welcome return to Xfm towers for Justin - who hosted here from 2003 – 2005.

And he’s promised us we’re “in for a treat”.

Can’t wait!
