You Decide—Which Hideous Lady Gaga Comic Book Cover Is Worse?
So, Bluewater Comics simply must be totally aware that the illustrations for their Fame series (which covers famous pop acts such as Justin Bieber, the Glee cast and Lady Gaga) are absolutely wretched and barely resemble their musical subjects…. right? Right? We suspect not. In any case, Gaga gets a sequel to her first Fame comic book, and the pop star gets two more easily-mocked covers. See both drawings in all their un-glory below, and let us know which one makes you scowl more.
First up, we’ve got the Alejandro-based cover:

It’s not too terribly offensive, except her hair looks like a mushroom. (Not a far cry from how it looked in the video, though.) Did they really need to outline the entire shape of her body in thick black ink?
Let’s move onto the more abstract, more drag queen-y cover, inspired by “Telephone”:

So according to this cover, Drag Queen Gaga discusses little more than sunglasses, crosses, teacups and hairbows while speaking on the phone. In Bluewater’s defense, we bet that’s what an actual telephone conversation with Lady Gaga is like.

Lady Gaga Talks Prop 8 And Crowd Surfing With Ryan Seacrest
Lady Gaga Talks Prop 8 And Crowd Surfing With Ryan Seacrest
Lady Gaga called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning (listen to the interview here), and discussed her recent stage-diving mini-show at Lollapalooza, her delight at the repeal of Prop 8, and the possibility of releasing two new albums. Squeal! Jump below for highlights from her early morning interview.
Lady Gaga recently thrilled the festgoers at Lollapalooza, but not in the way you think—her nearly-nude crowd-surfing during Semi Precious Weapons pretty much trumped her 0,000 stage show. So what made her take the plunge?
“I haven’t crowd surfed in a long time because no one lets me anymore,” said Gaga. “I love Semi Precious Weapons so much, they are my band… I don’t know what came over me, I just got so excited. I remember playing at that stage and what it felt like and they were doing such a great job. I was standing there with Lady Starlight, and she’s like, “Can you imagine if you just jumped into the crowd?” And I said [bleep] and I did it.”
Another recent event that excited Gaga was California’s Prop 8 being found unconstitutional. “I felt like it was a revolution, like a gunshot went off, like it set us all into rotation,” Gaga told Seacrest. “It was so exciting when it happened because it, for me, was a moment that indicated that it could happen in every state now… I was so happy and I went into the studio and kept writing.”
Although Gaga says her upcoming album is more or less “done”, she has more songs than can even fit on one album. “I can’t stop writing music,” she says. “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I might have to put out two records.”
As long as at least one of those albums is longer than The Fame Monster, that’s fine by us. Just don’t keep us waiting forever, Gaga!

Lollapalooza 2010: Arcade Fire Bring It Home

It’s hard to make a memory at a festival like this, to cut through the din, the heat, the corporate branding, to seize people’s attention and manufacture a genuine moment. Occasionally sets transcend setting; more often they’re the wallpaper of a weekend’s memories. There are a few ways to try and affect a positive result on the memorability front, though. Like, play a fun cover (as when Spoon covered Wolf Parade’s “The Modern World,” though they do that often), or spend 0,000 on your stage (ala Gaga). Or just be Arcade Fire. Last week, the band received its official coronation at Madison Square Garden, an indie troupe that always belonged on the world stage, seizing it with no reservation and a side of Terry Gilliam. It was triumphant, or at least so we heard; while you guys were on Vevo, we were at the Vic, seeing Soundgarden lay waste to Chicago’s Vic Theatre, which cleared the way for us to spend the last hours of this year’s Lollapalooza with one of our first Bands To Watch. And that’s what they were Sunday, as they always have been. Doing it with tens of thousands last night felt full of both inevitability and emotion. The Funeral songs have always wanted a crowd this large, and they resonated most deeply. “Crown Of Love” was dedicated to “our good friends in the National,” who had just finished a set across at the adjacent Playstation Stage and used to chide Arcade Fire for not playing that song enough; Grant Park erupted into the wave, a spontaneous and goosepimply moment that heightened the drama, tightened the air for the last half of Lolla’s most memorable set. “Rococo”’s strains ricocheted around the park, Regine spun to the “Sprawl II.” Win thanked the crowd for having such energy at the festival’s end. Yes, it was memorable; a band and their fans both wanting, and properly prepared for, an epic moment. You saw the YouTube from MSG, you know they’re ready for your arenas. Let it be known they’re ready to headline all your festivals, too. This is a good week for Arcade Fire, just like it is for anyone who loves them. And they made for a beautiful end to a long Lolla weekend.
