Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter IV’ Falls Short of a Million in First Week [Update]

wayne camo Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter IV’ Falls Short of a Million in First Week [Update]

Lil Wayne almost did it again. Weezy F. Baby just missed the million sales mark in his first week with his latest album Tha Carter IV.

According to final numbers from Nielsen SoundScan, the Young Money rapper’s ninth album will arrive at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling a whopping 964,000 copies in its opening week. While impressive, it wasn’t quite enough to top its predecessor Tha Carter III, which sold 1,005,545 when it debuted in June 2008.

That gives Weezy the second-highest first week sales of the year, displacing Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne, but still behind Lady Gaga’s Born This Way (1.1 million).

Tha Carter IV also broke the U.S. iTunes Store’s single-week album sales record by registering around 345,000 downloads, reports Billboard.

A thrilled Weezy thanked his fans for their support. “Wow!!!!!!!!!! I have the best fans in the universe! I thank u all. Hard work and dedication pays well. Young Mula baby!(weezy voice),” he tweeted.

The band are notoriously protective of their work – never allowing it to be used in adverts and only recently letting iTunes get hold of it.

Music Matters hopes to remind people of the “enduring value” of music and the amount of work that goes into making a great piece.

Beyonce 4 Beyonce Addresses Her June 28 Album Leak ’4′

Beyoncé is always a cool, calm and collected Southern lady, so it’s no surprise that when her entire upcoming album, 4, leaked on the internet she responded in a positive manner. While her own attorneys and Columbia Records’ legal department were sending out cease and desist letters left and right to those sharing the “King B” album, the international star updated fans from her Facebook page regarding the incident.

“My music was leaked and while this is not how I wanted to present my new songs, I appreciate the positive response from my fans. When I record music I always think about my fans singing every note and dancing to every beat. Lady Gaga Says a Digital Album Shouldn’t Cost More Than 99 Cents

By Matthew Perpetua

Lady Gaga isn’t at all offended that Amazon sold downloads of her new album Born This Way for just 99 cents last week. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the pop star explained that she doesn’t think a download of her album should necessarily be worth more than 99 cents.

“It’s invisible. It’s in space. If anything, I applaud a company like Amazon for equating the value of digital versus the physical copy, and giving the opportunity to everyone to buy music,” she said.
