Country singer Eric Church snags his 1st No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 this week as “Chief” lives up to its name and leads the tribe.

The title sells 145,000 copies, soaring above the first-week sales of his final album, 2009’s “Carolina,” which sold 31,000 in its opening frame, according to Billboard.

Church is a true story of artist advancement as he’s regularly improved his fan base by means of close to non-cease touring even though he has in no way had a song chart increased than No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
His arrival at the top pushes Adele’s “21” down to No. two, but if that album has proved anything at all in the last six months, it is its potential to bob back up to the top repeatedly.

Former Destiny’s Youngster member Kelly Rowland begins at No. three with her third solo album, “Here I Am,” which sells 77,000 copies, according to Billboard. 1st single, “Motivation,” spent seven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&ampB/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Soaring 9-4 is Amy Winehouse’s “Back To Black.” The title came back on the Billboard 200 last week following the British singer’s death July 23. Her initial album, “Frank,” rises 57-33.

Personal Playlist: Joss Stone: A lot of ‘Blue,’ a little Birdy

Joss Stone chilled soon after a current media event/listening session at Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood, exactly where she shared the stage with Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, A.R. Rahman and Damian Marley — all fellow members of SuperHeavy, a new supergroup in which she shares the microphone with Jagger.

The British singer, 24, has had a busy summer season. In addition to prepping for SuperHeavy’s September release, she’s also just dropped her fifth solo album, “LP1.” Co-created with Stewart, it was recorded in Nashville, and capabilities Stone’s confident voice above country-soul instrumentation.

Playlist: 10 tracks you need to hear

Listen to our ten favourite tracks this week, including Take That, Joss Stone and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Take That: ‘Aliens’
One of the new tunes from their newly-released Progressed EP, the record-breaking five-some claim they are of the extraterrestrial sort over a pounding beat and head-thumping electric guitar strums.

Joss Stone: ‘Somehow’
Following her departure from EMI, Joss Stone has gone indie and will release her new album LP1 through her own (and unfortunately titled) Stone’d Records company. Lead single ‘Somehow’ is a return to her soulful roots with mid-tempo beats, funky guitar plucks and her unmistakably powerhouse vocals.

Liam Bailey: ‘It’s Not The Same’
We enjoyed his guest feature spot on Chase & Status hit ‘Blind Faith’, but this trailer from his forthcoming EP It’s Not The Same – a soothing, hang loose soul number – is getting us really excited for his debut album proper. Watch the official music video below:

Beady Eye: ‘The Beat Goes On’
Carefree vocals and a sunkissed melody can be heard on Beady Eye’s latest single, the third from their debut LP Different Gear, Still Speeding. While it’s not quite their ‘Champagne Supernova’, its hazy and uplifting production make for a worthy addition to any summer soundtrack.

Adele: ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ (Thomas Gold Remix)
When releasing a third single off a multi-multi-million selling album, you’re safest bet is to package it with some decent remixes – and that is exactly what Adele has done with ‘Set Fire To The Rain’. Officially released on July 4, Thomas Gold has transformed the emotional power-ballad into a euphoric club smash – just in time for Ibiza’s high season.

Critic’s Notebook: Adele’s quiet power amid the pop girl riot

With a hit album and single, she shows how a strong voice can top glitz any time.

Critics Notebook: Adele’s quiet power amid the pop girl riot

Imagine the pop music marketplace in summer 2011 as an extravagant, glitzy party, a bacchanal in a Vegas ballroom. Mirror balls spin as the sonic bombast pushes into the sparkling throng, lasers cutting the space with red, dancers laughing and screaming, reckless joy and cocktails flying.

The women are dressed in their richest peacock best. There’s Lady Gaga in a deconstructed Christian Lacroix gown, Rihanna‘s in a corner wearing S&M leather, Katy Perry with her skirt so short that it could be a belt, Beyoncé’s beauty shining and Ke$ ha in a leopard print something-or-other.

Into this chaos glides Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, alone, with a show-stopping grace and penetrating green eyes, full-figured and fearless, in an elegant evening gown and a string of pearls, unconcerned with eclipsing the princesses and queens. So self-assured as to silence the room, all heads turning, her presence negating the rhinestones and ridiculousness. Whispers.

That’s one way to understand British singer Adele’s breathtaking arrival into America’s consciousness over the last three years. Another way is to play her “Rolling in the Deep” — No.1 on the singles chart for the fifth straight week — very loud and listen to a pearl of a pop song that combines essential ingredients of the Western popular music canon. So much funky, dynamic unity drives “Rolling in the Deep” that after it’s over you want to hear it again because it’ll be a different kind of great next time around.

Simon Cowell gatecrashes music industry rich list

Simon Cowell has soared into the top 10 of the annual Sunday Times music rich list, with an estimated fortune of £200m.

It is the first time the X Factor mogul has made the top 10, reaching No 6, up from 11 last year. The ongoing success of the show, plus the deal to export it to the US this year can be credited with his spike.

Clive Calder, who co-founded Zomba Records and its subsidiary Jive, tops the list with £1.3bn, with Andrew Lloyd Webber in second place with £680m. The rest of the top 10 comprises Sir Cameron Mackintosh (£675m), Sir Paul McCartney (£495m), Simon Fuller (£375m), with the four remaining places after Cowell going to Sir Elton John (£195m), Sir Mick Jagger (£190m), Sting (£180m) and Keith Richards (£175m).

Cowell has increased his personal wealth by £35m this year. But Ben Cardew, news editor of Music Week, cast doubt over whether Cowell belongs in the music list at all. He told the Guardian: “I’m slightly dubious about any of these lists but whatever his actual ‘fortune’ may be, it’s clear Cowell has done well financially over the past few years. For all his success with selling music, I would imagine most of his money comes from TV.”

Rich List editor Ian Coxon told Bloomberg: “Simon Cowell owns a share of the programmes he’s involved in as well as being in front of the camera. He’s busy behind the scenes and also responsible for many of the performers, so he’s taking pots of money in all directions.”
