Has there ever been a musical genre more maligned than disco? Along with hair metal and that random swing-dance revival, disco is typically used as shorthand for empty froth that inspired terrible trend selections and aged poorer than warm Gruyere.

But the legacy of the late Donna Summer, who passed away nowadays at the age of 63, can make a fairly magnificent situation for the greatness of her specific mix of funk, soul, R&ampB, and dance music. She in essence produced the genre with her 1975 hit “Love to Really like You,” and only elevated it from there.

Above the program of her profession, Summer season recorded a handful of stone-cold classics that defined the late 1970s for millions, which includes the memorably “Last Dance,” the smash “Hot Stuff,” the iconic “Bad Ladies,” and her whimsical chart-topping hit “MacArthur Park.”

Summer possibly had the best 1979 of any recording artist of the era. In addition to “Hot Stuff” and “Bad Women,” she put 3 more singles in the best five: The sweet “Heaven Is aware of,” the epic “Dim All The Lights,” and the Barbara Streisand duet “No Much more Tears (Ample Is Ample).”

All told, Summer place 14 singles in the best 10, including four quantity a single hits. Her body of operate — including plenty of hits that transcended the significantly-maligned genre — is extraordinary, and she was moving bodies all the way by means of her final album Crayons in 2008 (see the adrenaline-packed gem “Stamp Your Feet”).

California’s delightful Best Coast released their sophomore effort, The Only Spot, this week. In celebration, Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno swung by New York City for The Late Display with David Letterman, exactly where they knocked out their titular single to precision. One particular has to wonder, even so, how several New Yorkers right here agree with Cosentino’s assertions that the West just is the finest – we’re thinking not also a lot of. Perhaps she’ll have better luck convincing the tanner folk who see Conan or The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Then yet again, pop music is universal. Favorite Ronnie James Dio Song – Readers Poll

rjd Favorite Ronnie James Dio Song – Readers Poll

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com

Has there ever been a singer that’s had a more impressive resume within the genre where he performed? Ronnie James Dio was a true metal icon who showed off his range and talent performing with such acts as Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell and his own self-titled band, Dio.

It’s hard to imagine that the man who began his love of music playing the French horn and trumpet would eventually be the person often credited with creating the now standard “devil horns” sign at metal shows. Even though he was a man of diminutive stature, there may not have been a bigger giant when it came to performing onstage as his personality and passion always shone through.

After his death from stomach cancer in 2010, there was an outpouring of love not only from the metal community, but from musicians and entertainers across all genres and outlets. It speaks volumes that two years later, there are still many that have taken the time today to keep his memory alive by sharing their thoughts on the anniversary of his death (May 16).

Today we want to celebrate Dio’s legacy as well and ask you to tell us what was his best song. We’ve chosen a number of tracks from his vast catalog and ask you to pick a favorite. Choose what you think is the best Ronnie James Dio song in the poll below.
