Das Racist – “Ek Shaneesh” Video

Back on the day the internet was ruled by DR’s funny Nintendo-NES mashup “Who’s That? Brooown!” video, which, much like Das Racist’s culture vulture/nature nurture pop-referential rap schemes, was perfectly calibrated for dominion over blogspot proprietors and the A.D.H.D. minds they feed, casual acquaintances of the Shut Up, Dude mixtape learned how important hypeman/spirit guru Dapwell is to the band’s mission. In fact, the entire video game is about locating him, because sometimes he is a little lost. Today’s clip from the mixtape is for their ever-clever track “Ek Shaneesh,” directed by Weird Days, and Dapwell’s all over it, as are Heems and Victor Vazquez, the streets of Queens and copious green screens.

The Morning Mix: Katy Perry To Whip Up Some Trouble On ‘SNL’
Did You Hear?
:: Katy Perry will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live’s 36th season premiere. Amy Poehler will be the host, and we will be the audience, watching every single delicious minute of this episode. (We’re fully expecting a Russell Brand cameo, too.) [Vulture]
:: Travie McCoy stops by VH1 for a martini break with Best Week Ever’s Michelle Collins. [Best Week Ever]
:: Try as they might, here are 10 once-popular hip-hop artists who just aren’t coming back. We concur on Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Ja Rule, but we’re not so sure about Nelly (his new singles get a thumbs up from us) or D’Angelo, who’s preparing a new album with Mark Ronson. [Smoking Section]
:: Nicki Minaj talks about her faux Twitter marriage-to-and-divorce-from Drake: “I wanted to give the blogs a bit of payback and put my own story out… I’m always single. I don’t date boys. I don’t like boys. It’s true. I don’t change. I think boys are yucky, and that’s it.” [MTV]
:: Apparently, Glee doesn’t care if you have an Oscar nomination—you need to reach Britney Spears (or at least Charice) levels of famous to get on the show. [E! Online]

Pendulum’s The Island by Mike Sharpe & Barney Steel
Wednesday, 8. September 2010 – 1:30 pm

Beautifully shot by Steve Annis, Mike Sharpe and Barney Steel’s third promo for Pendulum was filmed in Tennerife which doubled up as an alien planet for the excellent, if a little creepy, sci-fi epic. Poor lass, she must have been exhausted…

Rihanna gets ‘Loud’ with new disc, returns to dance roots on album’s first single
Although we can’t necessarily say Rihanna is back, since she didn't go anywhere — she is making a comeback of sorts.
The self-proclaimed "good girl gone bad" is back to her dance roots on her new single, “Only Girl (In the World),” which she debuted Tuesday on Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show.
After taking a more macabre approach to her fourth disc, “Rated R,” she's gone in a decidedly more “sassy, fun, flirty [and] energetic” direction on her fifth disc, “Loud.”
“Get loud, everybody. Get crazy. Get excited. 'Cause I'm pumped. I'm just gonna be me,” she told fansite RihannaDaily.com during a live chat.
“I’m done recording the whole album … I made sure not to let you down with my music! You guys are always defending me, so now you've got some great songs to justify it. I didn't want to go backward and remake [2007's] ‘Good Girl Gone Bad.’ I wanted the next step in the evolution of Rihanna, and it's perfect for us.”
Matthew Dear – “Slowdance (Bear In Heaven Remix)”

This remix cuts out a bit of what was awesome about the original — the slow syrup of Matthew Dear’s vocal samples. But Bear In Heaven add other vocals to puzzle over, and while their version has a lot more energy, there are a couple times where it also felt like it was drifting out of time or melting away, much like Dear’s original. And it sounds like a lot of the layers on this remix are Dear’s vocals, sliced into half-syllables. Have a listen:
