Today In ‘Idol’: Radiohead Tunes Apparently Not Allowed On The ‘Idol’ Stage
:: The Top 11 perform #1 Billboard hits tonight, with Miley Cyrus as the guest mentor. So expect all 11 contestants to be pole dancing tonight followed by exposing their backs for inappropriate magazine spreads. [Idol Chatter]
:: Lilly Scott reportedly wanted to cover Radiohead’s “Nude” for weeks before she was voted off, but Idol producers wouldn’t even try to clear it for her because they said it was “not a very common song.” Is this the reason we keep hearing the same songs over and over on the Idol stage? [Idol Tracker]
:: Good news, folks: Adam Lambert’s next single is confirmed to be the dance-tastic “If I Had You.” Now the bad news: he won’t be touring with Christina Aguilera this summer. Wait, hold on, some better news: he’s planning his own damn tour instead of opening for somebody else. [AI Now]
:: Is Paula Abdul now gearing up to host a dance show for NBC? Can the woman please pick a career already? We’re getting bored waiting around for her to decide what to do next. [Rickey.org]
:: After the jump, check out Lacey Brown performing “What a Wonderful World” on Letterman, and having to field this question from Letterman: “What do you win for being the American Idol?” Seriously? We know this is a new segment, having ousted contestants perform on his show, but what kind of rock has Letterman been living under the past nine years? [Via MJs Big Blog]
Jay-Z Is In A Perpetual Empire State Of Mind In Documentary ‘NY-Z’
Jay-Z’s collaboration with filmmaker Danny Clinch and Absolut Vodka, the concert documentary NY-Z, premiered online this week, and it’s a brief behind-the-scenes look (filmed in stunning black-and-white) into the music mogul’s life living and working in New York. Take the jump to watch the entire ode to both Jay-Z and his beloved Empire State, featuring cameos by Mary J. Blige, Kid Cudi, John Mayer and more. (Sorry, no Beyoncé this time. But you can just watch the “Telephone” video for the 50th time to get your Bey quota filled for the day.)
NY-Z
The 15-minute film chronicles Jay-Z preparing to release The Blueprint 3 as well as his September 11 benefit concert at Madison Square Garden in 2009, but the film takes plenty of opportunities taken to wax poetic about the city of New York, too.
Many might find it disarming for Jay to pair up with a vodka brand in order to deliver a heartfelt, mostly serious message to his fans, but he assured that it wouldn’t turn into an extended commercial (akin to the massive amounts of product placement in Diddy’s “Cîroc Star”). Quoth Hova: “I’m all for collaborations, whether it be with business or with artists. It can’t be about money, there has to be something in there that’s true for both sides. I think it’s a great thing when two people come together with two different ideas and two different approaches and they align at the end of the day. No one loses when it’s like that.”
Philly music-makers mull museum at torched offices (AP)
AP – Longtime R&B record producers Leon Huff and Kenneth Gamble are considering whether to rebuild their fire-damaged offices into a music museum, the duo said Tuesday just hours after the man accused of setting the blaze was ordered to stand trial.

U2 to release DVD of last year’s Rose Bowl performance
This just in from U2 headquarters: The Irish band will release a DVD of last year's massive Rose Bowl concert sometime in 2010, according to U2's website. Details remain foggy, but apparently they want the info out immediately, before they finalize the decisions: "The band are still working on the content of the DVD," reads a note on their site, before asking fans to register to get the latest updates.
The news isn't a big surprise, considering the band partnered with YouTube to stream the concert live.
Do you need the DVD? Times pop critic Ann Powers, in her review of the show, suggests maybe yes:
[A]fter three decades as an important band, U2 is long past simple uplift. Its music is as much about emotional entanglement (as in "Ultraviolet" on Sunday) and disorientation ("Vertigo"). Ultimately, it is a meditation on space: the majestic natural landscapes that the Edge's guitar playing often describes; the crowded dance floors or train platforms Clayton and Mullen's rhythms evoke; the inches between a whispering mouth and a lover's ear, or the infinite journey of a prayer hurled into the air.
Serena-Maneesh/The Depreciation Guild @ Spaceland, Los Angeles 3/22/10

Serena-Maneesh started their tour proper last night in L.A., after doing five shows for SXSW. Their album, S-M 2: Abyss In B Minor is out Stateside today, and after a five-year wait, it’s good to see (and hear) them back. Photographer Andrew Youssef says Medicine guitarist Brad Laner played with Serena-Maneesh for a few songs, and Serena guitarist Emil Nikolaisen said Medicine was a huge influence on the band (you can definitely hear it). Tour mates the Depreciation Guild and locals Seaspin opened the show for a Very Shoegazey Evening all around.
