Sleepy Sun Fever Details

It hasn’t been that long since we premiered Sleepy Sun’s “Red/Black” and “White Dove” videos. But they’re already following up last year’s Embrace LP and Sleepy Son EP with a new full-length this spring. And people say stoners never get anything done. On first listen, Fever doesn’t stray far from Embrace, with the San Fransisco sextet continuing to balance summery folk jams with thunderous sludge. They’re playing a ton of SXSW shows, and will open for Arctic Monkeys for 14 dates around the US and Mexico.

Lady Antebellum Proud of [John] Legend-ary Collaboration

charles kelley the antebellum john legend 200pg031510 thumbnail Lady Antebellum Proud of [John] Legend ary CollaborationHillary Scott of Lady Antebellum is keeping her iPod close at hand these days just to listen to a new song by John Legend. The song isn’t a new single from Legend; it’s a song the trio co-wrote with the R&B star.

“We had the opportunity to write with John Legend in December,” Hillary explains to The Boot, adding that she’s a huge Legend fan. “One of the first concerts I went to that wasn’t country was Gladys Knight so R&B music has been a part of my musical background my whole life. We wrote a song with John that we’re really proud of, but we don’t know what the future holds for it yet, if we’ll cut it or he’ll cut it or somebody else [will]. Just to be able to turn on my iPod and listen to a song we wrote with him, and hear him sing the demo is awesome. I’m so happy we were able to do that.”

Mika Fails To “Kick-Ass” In His Latest Music Video

mika kick ass video Mika Fails To “Kick Ass” In His Latest Music VideoMika’s most recent album, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, failed to capture the interest of American music fans, as the album peaked at #19 on the Billboard 200. But can teaming up with a red hot producer and attaching his name to a superhero flick push the British pop darling into the mainstream? Mika and Lady Gaga’s beloved collaborator RedOne melded minds together in the studio for “Kick-Ass,” the lead single from the upcoming action-comedy of the same name. Watch the track’s video below and see if this is the song to launch the singer to superhero status.

Mika – “Kick-Ass”

For a song and movie called Kick-Ass, we think this video could have used a heck of a lot more, well, kickin’ ass. They didn’t give Mika much to do in this vid, opting instead to focus on random clips from the film that don’t really make us want to run out opening weekend to see the flick. Personally, we would have thrown a cape on the sexy pop star, plopped him in front of a green screen and turned him into a superhero intead of a nerdy rooftop singer belting to the sky.

The song itself features Mika doing what he does best: showing off his fancy falsetto and powering through the song with gutsy emotion. It’s a different direction for the Brit singer, too, with a heavier electro beat we haven’t heard on any of his previous singles. However, the track is a bit repetitive and unremarkable—we doubt “Kick-Ass” is destined to make a mark on pop-culture the way other-underdog-superhero flick Mystery Men accomplished with Smash Mouth’s “All Star.” (Nine years after the song came and went, Saturday Night Live is still writing sketches about it!)
