Premature Evaluation: Caribou – Swim

Caribou’s nine-song Swim follows his nine-song 2007 Polaris Winning-Andorra. The last one was 42:59. This one’s 43:10. Just a quick, statistical way of pointing that that since Dan Snaith founded his project as Manitoba ten or so years ago, at least on the surface (and by the numbers) he’s been incredibly consistent. Shooter Jennings to Tour With Alice In Chains

shooter promo2010 1268424487 thumbnail Shooter Jennings to Tour With Alice In ChainsShooter Jennings and his band, Hierophant have announced a string of tour dates with Alice In Chains, kicking off April 6 in Fayetteville, Ark., and ending April 28 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Shooter and his band will also be performing at Coachella in Indio, Calif., on April 17.

Shooter is touring in support of his genre-bending new album, ‘Black Ribbons,’ which was given 3.5 stars by PEOPLE Magazine, and compared to Pink Floyd and Nine Inch Nails by the Los Angeles Times.

“Brilliant … one wild, paranoid, anti-establishment mash-up of psychedelic theater,” the Los Angeles Daily News declares.

“I wanted to make a different kind of record — a new adventure,” says Shooter. “I know some folks may be surprised at how different this record is compared to my previous works, but I’m sure once they dig in, they’ll find something that speaks to them. After all, it’s the twisted road that matters, not the destination.”

Why? “Song of the sad Assassin”

Why’s apparent stream of consciousness flow is probably what Tim Burton has in his head all the time. Their music is like Beach Boys, Cake, the Flaming Lips, Neil Young, and Bjork in a high speed Blender set on “wierd”. I definitely get the appeal but for me I need to take “Why” in small doses.

Lloyd Brings Mystikal Back Around With “Set Me Free”

lloyd Lloyd Brings Mystikal Back Around With “Set Me Free”Looks like T.I. isn’t the only rapper staging a return to the rap game after being incarcerated. Following a six-year stint in the slammer for sexual battery and extortion charges, Mystikal (real name: Michael Lawrence Tyler) has professionally resurfaced on “Set Me Free,” a new track from fellow New Orleans artist Lloyd off DJ Smallz’ mix tape Follow Me Part Two. Get a load of the cut after the jump.

Mystikal – Set Me Free

“Feels like I got the whole world in my pants/ Girl you can set me free/ I’m feeling like Ali/ In his prime/ I’m a P.I.M.P.,” Lloyd sings in his silky smooth tenor voice. Classy!

But the real icing on this southern-fried meeting of the minds is Mystikal’s rap interlude: “Stop lyin’ on me/ I smash these rappers and pick up trash at the same time, homie/ Young Lloyd called me and told me to sick the dog on ‘em/ I’m a doberman pincher/ I got meaner from being behind that fence.”
